And yet, in a perverse way there is an element of truth to be found here. By standing up against oppression, we are in fact a threat to the peace; the peace of the tyrant. Or the peace of the fanatic. Or the peace of the jihadist.
Simply by being a nation based in the principles – even the supremacy – of individual liberty, religious freedom and self determination we are a threat to the worldview of nearly every other nation on the planet. By having the *power* to defend that view, we are certainly the greatest threat to the normal state of the world in recorded history.
That, I say, is a good thing. If the price of being moral or just is to be so branded, then so be it.
